The Cake

So it was Black Nerds Birthday a couple of weeks ago and it has now become a tradition that BnnGirls bake him a cake. Last year we were inspired by Tatty Devine and all things musical.

This year we were inspired by Afrikanism our Fela tribute and Chris Ofili's exhibition at the Tate

Afrikanism

We've been feverishly acquiring new skills at our HQ in Dalston! We've been piecing together this old Fela footage and learning how to do animation to bring you this rather nice vid with original music by Ogheno( http://www.myspace.com/ogheno.)

The music and Video are called Afrikanism.

We hope you like.

The Art of Lemi Ghariokwu

Tuesday night saw the launch of Nigerian artist Lemi Ghariokwu's at the RichMix . The exhibition brought to life Lemi's work who is most famously known for the album art work of Fela Kuti. After listening to Lemi talk about his inspiration and his time with Fela, the launch night turned into one of the best free nights we've seen in London for a long time. The sounds of live Afrobeat with Nigerian legends Tony Allen and Dele Sosimi with Rich Medina on the decks had us all on our feet.

The next day we went to collect our print, had a more in depth tour of the exhibition, where we met Lemi and Rich Medina

Just watching the rehearsals and hearing the sounds gives us goose bumps. We hope they can capture the ruggedness of Fela and Nigerian life.
