Tribe in de Air
So as you know we were still looking for one female tribe costume and with that on hold we picked up the male costume with no problems.

First Experience
Well we’re back from the land of Bacchanal and Mas and we could well and truly say the adventure started at Virgin check in………….
So we reach the check in and we were then informed that our plane was delayed for 4 hours, no probs you think we could lime by de bar hold a rum and spend the £10 voucher at Krispy Kreme doughnut. However with our flight going to St Lucia, an hour drives through the island to go to another airport to catch the LIAT flight. Well we not making that flight at all. So we spent the night in St Lucia and caught the first flight next morning.
After starting the flight with some rowdy Bajans I was glad to see Piarco airport. We stayed in Woodbrook at Fablennes guest house where by Ella and the mosquitoes were there to greet us.

Ella
So it was Wednesday and that meant Bacchanal Wednesday. This was an outdoor fete with the likes of Machel, Kess the band Destra and Shurwayne Winchester. The highlights were of course winner boy (Machel)ending the show with fireworks, flames and the usual maddness.
To end the night we had to make a stop by the doubles man.

One of the best has got to be Vincent Gallo, he cracked up when we handed him a card and announced we were from the "BLACK NERDS NETWORK" he kept repeating the words over and over as if he was trying to understand this strange grouping of words..like "BLACK PRESIDENT USA" then he disappeared into some whole foods shop in Greenwich Village..he couldn't get over it..LOL..NERD..COOL NERD!

Lightspeed Champion.. AKA BLACK NERD
Yesterday we were bopping around Shoreditch and we bumped into Devonte Hynes formely of those dirty noiseiks Test Icicles, and as you do we promised him a blog so here we go..
If anyone deserves the honor of being haled as a black nerd or in fact just a nerd it's Devonte!
In his first venture Test Icicles with his band members he some how managed to combine grime, punk and thrash metal (not an easy feat) and in the process make Bloc Party look like Girls Aloud!
His new solo project Lightspeed Champion seems far more intimate (although we must confess we haven't heard it all hopefully we'll get sent a copy for writing this..yeah Devonte if your reading this send us a copy!!LOL) with songs like "TELL ME WHAT IT'S WORTH".
Check him out his album is called "Falling Off The Lavender Bridge"
He's also got a blog: www.lightspeedchampion.com/

Make up and stuff
As we said before we don’t have a costume yet however we kind of figured these will accessorise most costumes, let’s face it most costumes feature gold some where.
Now we could of spend nuff corn on Mac eyeshadows, but with this trip costing £££££ we were happy to find this lovely pallet by Sleek at Superdrug and on visiting 3 Superdrug’s we finally got the last one at the Shepherds bush branch. These babies having been selling out like a Primark scrum and at £3.99 we can see why.

Mas boots
We found these Gold beauties from some kid section in a cheap shop, and yes we did go a size up (don’t want to lose no toenails, common carnival injury).

So you want to play MAS
Well because we only booked this trip a couple weeks ago we find ourselves with no costume (we know shock horror).

Bikinis in Winter
We always dread shopping for bikinis in the winter as their is not much choice, but H&M have come up trumps.

But with the pink one we could not believe we being a size 8 had to go up to a size 12 if we did not want major spillage.
We got these sandals at Urban Outfitters get it now for £4.99 each in the sale.

A few years back we also found these authentic 70s print bikinis in Benny Dee they were cheap as chips.

For the last couple of months we've been experimenting with making our own screens so we can be more experimental and flexible with print.
However never in a million years did we realise just how difficult it would be to expose a screen!!??!!..But yesterday at around 2pm we had a breakthrough!!...HOOOORAAAAYYYYY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Out of the Ordinary
BNN have been out and about at the V&A museum London and we stumble upon all things Crafty.

Out of the Ordinary: Spectacular Craft brings together the work of eight contemporary artists who place craft at the heart of their practice: Olu Amoda, Catherine Bertola, Annie Cattrell, Susan Collis, Naomi Filmer, Lu Shengzhong, Yoshihiro Suda and Anne Wilson.

We were really liking the work of Nigerian creative Nerd Olu Amoda and his depiction of lagos using bits of metal such as nails.

This is Lagos 2002

Queen of the Night 2003
Other crafty folk we liked ...

'I move from weaving, to sound, to glass, to video and collaborative practices very liberally, rather than being defined by a specific way of making.'
Using textile techniques such as lace making, crochet and knitting Chicago artist Anne Wilson and her team created these delights

Topologies 2002
She also does video and sound installations

Errant behaviours 2004
Catherine Bertola
'My work is about labour, investing time in a very ordinary material. I use daily domestic activities or chores such as vacuuming and dusting to make my work. The manual labour involved adds value to something that usually gets swept away.'
Bertola created a cutout of an existing wallpaper that used to be hung in the museum. With the use of the black patterned wallpaper and the contrasting white wall suggestively placed in corners to form a very striking 3d wall piece.

Everything and Nothing 2007
We loved the V&A for showing how everyday Ordinary became a delight of beauty and the best thing it is all free.
